"VAN" (Sports Desk - 02.09.2025) :: Round two of the 2025/2026 ANDRA Sportsman Series, the Desert Nationals, will bring plenty of epic mid-week drag racing action to Alice Springs Inland Dragway on Wednesday September 3.
This unique timing for the popular drag racing event sees it as the mid-point between an epic three-stop ‘up north’ drag racing journey for ANDRA members – the weekend’s ANDRA Sportsman Series opening Nitro Up North at the Hidden Valley Drag Strip (August 29/30), and the non-championship but still ANDRA-sanctioned Red CentreNATS (September 5-7), which includes drag racing at ASID this coming weekend.
ANDRA Chief Executive Officer, Tim McAvaney, said he can’t wait to see how this one-day format will unfold at ASID.
“The Desert Nationals at Alice Springs Inland Dragway is a fantastic event and one that has played an important role on our calendar for many years,” McAvaney said.
“This is the first time it has been scheduled as a one-day format, and also the first time it has been held mid-week!
“It certainly is unusual, but it has allowed us to create this epic three-events in a week and half opportunity for ANDRA members from all over the country to maximise a trip up north and get in as much exciting racing as possible, and we are really proud of that.
“Nitro Up North opened our 2025/2026 ANDRA Sportsman Series with much fanfare last Friday and Saturday, and we absolutely cannot wait to see round two unfold over one huge day of racing action in Alice Springs on Wednesday.
“Red CentreNATS this weekend will also see ASID hosting more exciting drag racing with the Heavy Hitters concept and more taking to the track as part of that ANDRA-sanctioned event which provides plenty of thrills.
“Make sure you stay tuned – we are expecting some brilliant performances in Alice Springs this week, starting with the Desert Nationals!”
