U.S. Veterans and Lawmakers Still Angered Four Years After Afghanistan Withdrawal

~ Four years after the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan, anger and frustration persist among veterans and lawmakers, who view the chaotic exit as a damaging strategic failure.

"VAN" (International Desk - 31.08.2025) :: Four years after the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan, frustration and anger remain strong among American veterans and Republican lawmakers who view the exit as disastrous.

Fox News reported on Saturday that many veterans, particularly those who served in the Middle East, remain disillusioned by the chaotic withdrawal and its long-term consequences.

Rep.Patrick Harrigan, a North Carolina Republican and former Special Forces officer, said the disorderly exit reflected America’s strategic weakness and posed risks for future generations.

Rep. Don Bacon of Nebraska, a retired Air Force officer, described President Biden’s decision as “the most failed operation” he had seen in his lifetime. He added that the withdrawal has left him and other veterans deeply demoralized.

The fourth anniversary also recalls the deadly suicide bombing at Kabul International Airport, which killed 13 U.S. service members and dozens of Afghans during the final days of evacuation.

Veterans’ groups argue that beyond politics, the U.S. still bears responsibility for Afghans left behind and for addressing the ongoing trauma faced by American service members.
