Australia’s Jane Claxton named IOC Believe in Sport Ambassador

"VAN" (Sports Desk - 12.09.2025) :: Hockeyroos star Jane Claxton has been selected as an athlete ambassador for the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) latest Believe in Sport campaign, which raises awareness about the threat of competition manipulation.

The campaign brings together athletes from ten different sports and all continents, with each ambassador playing a key role in educating athletes, entourages, and officials about protecting the integrity of sport.

Claxton, a mainstay of the Hockeyroos and a two-time Olympian, becomes the second hockey player to take on the role of an ambassador in the campaign, following in the footsteps of Consuelo de las Heras of Chile, who was appointed in the role in 2024. For 2025, Claxton joins nine other ambassadors from swimming, ice hockey, volleyball, basketball, figure skating, athletics, baseball, biathlon, and gymnastics.

Speaking on her appointment, Claxton said:

“It’s a privilege to have the opportunity to lead the way in providing education, not only to the Australian sporting community, but to the global community as well. Integrity in sport is an ever-evolving topic, and ensuring that all athletes have access not only to knowledge but also to strong support networks will be key to keeping our sporting fields safe. I am genuinely excited about what lies ahead in this space and grateful for the opportunity to contribute.”

Expanding athlete engagement

The Believe in Sport ambassadors were selected by the IOC’s Olympic Movement Unit on the Prevention of the Manipulation of Competitions (OM Unit PMC) in close collaboration with National Olympic Committees, Continental Associations, and International Federations. All ambassadors completed training at the Olympic House in Lausanne, Switzerland, to prepare them for their new role.

As ambassadors, they will play an active role in athlete outreach, leading activations at major events, including the Olympic Games, as well as engaging athletes through educational webinars and workshops.

Hockey representation on the global stage

With Claxton’s involvement, hockey is once again represented at the heart of the Olympic Movement’s efforts to protect clean sport. Her appointment reinforces the game’s commitment to integrity and fair play, values that underpin hockey at every level.

The IOC’s Believe in Sport campaign first launched at Paris 2024 and continues to expand, with this second cohort of ambassadors ensuring wider reach and stronger athlete engagement worldwide.

FIH President Tayyab Ikram speaking on the appointment said:

“On behalf of FIH, I’d like to extend my warmest congratulations and thanks to our hockey star Jane Claxton for being nominated as one of the only 10 global ambassadors of the IOC ‘Believe in Sport’ campaign, and for accepting to embrace this very important mission.

At FIH, athletes are at the centre of everything we do. Having one of our top players trusted with such a role confirms how committed our hockey athletes are to protect and promote the values of integrity in sport.”
