World Rowing and Salty Lemon Entertainment, developers of the digital Rowing app EXR, Extend Partnership to Further Enhance Connected Rowing Experiences

"VAN" (Sports Desk - 24.05.2025) :: World Rowing is pleased to announce the renewal of its partnership with EXR, the cutting-edge Indoor Rowing app developed by Salty Lemon Entertainment. This extension solidifies a shared commitment to advancing digitally enhanced Rowing experiences and further fostering the growth of Indoor/Connected Rowing worldwide.

EXR provides an immersive and interactive Rowing environment that connects users worldwide through gamified workouts, structured training programs, and virtual competitions. As one of World Rowing’s official Associates, EXR will continue to support the organisation’s vision of making Rowing more accessible and engaging for a broader audience, from elite athletes to fitness enthusiasts.

"The digital transformation of Rowing is accelerating, and our partnership with EXR has been instrumental in expanding the Indoor and Connected Rowing ecosystem," said Christian Osterode, World Rowing’s Head of Broadcast & Marketing. "By renewing this collaboration, we are reinforcing our commitment to innovation, accessibility, and the long-term development of the discipline."

The new agreement comes at a pivotal moment for the discipline, following a series of key developments in the Indoor and Connected Rowing space. Notably, World Rowing and the Japan Sports Council co-hosted the 2025 Virtual Sports Forum – Tokyo, marking a significant milestone in the evolution of Esports and virtual sporting experiences.

Building on this momentum, World Rowing, Japan Sports Council and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) co-presented Indoor Rowing at EXPO2025 in Osaka, commemorating the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace. These initiatives underscore the increasing role of digital platforms in engaging Rowers of all levels and expanding the sport’s global reach.

"Renewing the partnership is a key advancement in our shared mission to shape the future of Indoor Rowing. At EXR, we are driven by innovation and a love for sports. We are confident that, through our strategic collaboration with World Rowing, Indoor Rowing will reach unprecedented heights," said Alfred Campenaerts, CEO of Salty Lemon Entertainment.

Looking ahead, World Rowing and EXR will collaborate to enrich virtual training platforms, spotlight inspiring stories throughout the global Indoor Rowing community, and open new avenues for Rowers to connect worldwide. The partnership aligns seamlessly with World Rowing’s broader initiatives in virtual sports and Indoor and Connected Rowing, ensuring that the organisation remains at the forefront of technological advancements in the sport.

With the 2026 World Rowing Indoor Championships, presented by Concept2 and other major virtual Rowing events on the horizon, this extended collaboration will play a key role in shaping the next chapter of Rowing’s digital evolution.
