Republican Congressman urges transfer of eligible Afghan immigrants to US

"VAN" (International Desk - 17.02.2025) :: Dan Crenshaw, a Republican representative from Texas, emphasized that former U.S. allies from Afghanistan should be evacuated. He urged that those who aided the U.S. during its 20-year presence in Afghanistan be brought to the United States.

A news channel reported on Sunday, February 16, that Crenshaw stated that the policies of former President Joe Biden left many eligible Afghans stranded in Afghanistan and other countries. He pointed out the flaws in Biden’s withdrawal strategy.

He added that Afghan partners who assisted the U.S. in Afghanistan should be transferred to the U.S. as a matter of urgency. These individuals, according to Crenshaw, made significant contributions during America’s two-decade presence in the country.

The congressman noted that during the 2021 evacuation, some qualified Afghans were not brought to the U.S. This oversight has caused frustration, as many believe those who helped the U.S. deserve safety and protection.

Crenshaw emphasized that he would work with the U.S. government to ensure the transfer of eligible Afghan allies. The congressman, a former soldier who served in both Afghanistan and Iraq, has a personal stake in this issue.

He lost an eye during a battle in Helmand province. His military background gives him a unique perspective on the importance of helping those who risked their lives alongside American forces.

Trump’s decision to halt U.S. foreign aid for 90 days further destabilized Afghanistan’s fragile economy. Despite the Taliban’s repeated denials about receiving U.S. financial aid, the suspension of funds led to economic uncertainty and deepened the country’s challenges.

The Trump administration’s foreign aid freeze and hardline policies had a lasting impact on Afghanistan. The halt in foreign aid exacerbated the nation’s economic instability, making it even harder for Afghan civilians to recover from decades of conflict.
