"VAN" (Sports Desk - 17.08.2025) :: World Rowing, the international governing body of the Olympic sport of Rowing launched, in close collaboration with Sport Singapore, the Singapore Rowing Association and event management company Adventurers Singapore, a nationwide initiative to introduce the excitement and benefits of Indoor Rowing to the wider population of the South-East Asian country.
The “World Rowing Super60” is a brand new event and competition concept for mass participation, tailored for Singapore’s SG60 celebrations and also to showcase the health and fitness advantages of the rapidly growing discipline of Indoor/Connected Rowing.
The inaugural edition of World Rowing Super60 kicked off as part of Singapore Urban Sports + Fitness Festival’s activation at Singapore Sport Hub’s OCBC Square. With 60 individual events and activations spanning over a period of 60 days across the country, World Rowing Super60 will give thousands of Singaporeans - from school kids, students and fitness enthusiasts to public service organisations and corporates - the opportunity to row and actively join the action, qualify for the Grand Finale, and win exciting prizes.
The Grand Finale of the 2025 World Rowing Super60 Singapore will be held on 29-30 November 2025 at the Singapore EXPO, embedded in the programme of the Singapore’s 2025 Urban Sports & Fitness Festival.
In addition to the finals of this grassroots competition, 29-30 November 2025 will also feature Singapore’s National Indoor Rowing Championships and high-profile races with top athletes. This unique stage will also offer a range of come-and-try opportunities for all the participants and visitors, to have a “360” experience of Indoor Rowing with games and fun challenges.
Says World Rowing’s Indoor Rowing Manager, Juliette Duchemin: “This marks an exciting development for Indoor/Connected Rowing in Asia. Indoor/Connected Rowing, which is widely accepted as one of the most effective full body workouts, can easily be performed at any age, any ability level, and at any time. Its interconnectivity via modern apps allows the rowers to train and compete in stimulating virtual environments.”
Dean Tan, Deputy Chief (Industry Development) from Sport Singapore said: “Singapore Urban Sports + Fitness Festival is not just a showcase of urban sports and fitness activities. It is a platform for our event partners to raise the profile of their sport and make it more accessible to everyone. Our successful partnership with World Rowing during the inaugural Olympic Esports Week in 2023 provided a glimpse of the possibilities with Indoor Rowing. At this year’s SGUSFF, we are excited about our enhanced partnership with World Rowing. The line-up of events include Super60 Singapore, Singapore’s National Indoor Rowing Championships and the World Rowing Versa Challenge. Don’t miss this opportunity to experience Indoor Rowing at SGUSFF!”
Adds Dato Paul Supramaniam, President of the Singapore Rowing Association: “Rowing holds a far deeper place in Singapore history than most realise. When Sir Stamford Raffles first arrived in 1819, he came ashore in a rowing boat. With this legacy, we wanted to do something special to commemorate SG60. This is a fantastic opportunity for our national federation to engage with Singaporeans on a broader scale. Being allowed also to stage our annual national indoor championships in such a high-profile environment will undoubtedly boost awareness for our sport. We couldn’t be more excited! We welcome everyone to come and discover this sport, join our growing family and we hope through these series of events also to talent identify those who could be groomed as future national athletes.”
Closes Steven Yeo, CEO and founder of Adventurers Singapore: “We are proud to be part of this powerful initiative and thank our partners Sport Singapore, the Singapore Rowing Association and World Rowing for their trust in our abilities. Our team is fully motivated to provide Singaporeans with a high-quality experience ”
This exciting development follows World Rowing’s successful showcasing of the Indoor/Connected Rowing discipline in the context of the International Olympic Committee’s inaugural Olympic Esports Week held in Singapore in June 2023. And marks another milestone in the development of a discipline that now enjoys a constantly increasing number of competitions at every level - from National to Continental to World Championships, organised as in-person or virtual, often connecting a global community through digital applications.
