Malaysia gearing up for ICC Men’s T20 World Cup sub-regional qualifier double-header

~ 13 teams will compete simultaneously across SRQ A and B events in Kuala Lumpur from 5-21 October

~ Six qualification spots up for grabs at next year’s regional final

"VAN" (Sports Desk - 03.10.2026) :: Malaysia is ready and raring to host the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Sub-Regional Asia Qualifiers A and B from 5 to 14 October 2026, as 13 teams begin their journey towards the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2028.

A total of 36 matches will be played across the two qualifiers and three venues: Bayuemas Oval, UKM Oval and STC Oval.

Sub-Regional Qualifier A will feature Bahrain, Bhutan, Kuwait, Mongolia, Myanmar, Qatar and Thailand, while Hong Kong China, China, Malaysia, Maldives, Saudi Arabia and Singapore will compete in Sub-Regional Qualifier B.

Both events will be played in a single round-robin format, with the top three teams from each qualifier progressing to the next stage of the Asia qualification pathway in 2027.

Malaysian Cricket Association President, Mahinda Vallipuram, said: “On behalf of the Malaysian Cricket Association, it is my pleasure to welcome the players, officials, team management and supporters to Malaysia for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Sub-Regional Asia Qualifiers A and B.

“We are honoured to host these important events on the road to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2028. They provide another opportunity to showcase the ambition, talent and continued development of cricket across Asia.

“We also extend our appreciation to the International Cricket Council for entrusting Malaysia with the hosting of these qualifiers and for its continued support for the growth of the game across the region.”

All matches will be streamed live on ICC.tv globally and Fancode in India, with scores and updates available on the ICC’s official website.
