Jordan’s king backs Syria’s stability efforts in U.S. talks

"VAN" (International Desk - 25.08.2025) :: Jordan’s King Abdullah II on Sunday reaffirmed the need to support Syria’s efforts to preserve its security, stability, and sovereignty during a meeting with a U.S. congressional delegation in Amman.

According to the state-run Al-Mamlaka TV, the king met with U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen and Representative Joe Wilson, with Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi also present. Discussions included Syria, joint Jordan–U.S. initiatives for regional stability, the Gaza cease-fire, and the need to facilitate humanitarian aid.

Following the talks, Rep. Wilson described the visit as “important,” noting on X that it focused on strengthening bilateral ties and supporting peace and prosperity in Syria. He added that Jordan remains a vital U.S. ally in the region.

Last week, Wilson stressed the importance of maintaining Syria’s territorial unity, warning that any attempts to divide the country could destabilize the region.
