"VAN" (Asian Games 2018 Desk - Jakarta) :: With just a week left in the 2018 Asian Games, Vice President Jusuf Kalla has expressed his optimism that Indonesia would achieve its target in the 18th edition of the regional multi-sports event.
“We’ve won 12 medals so far and there are still 20 more to be pursued. The achievement has been on the right path. I’m sure we can meet the target,” Kalla said on Sunday during his visit to Jakabaring Sports City (JSC) in Palembang, South Sumatra.
Kalla said he was optimistic because there were still five days left in the Asian Games, with the potential to win more medals. “There’s still time, we can make it. There are jetski, [pencak] silat, karate and badminton,” he added.
Kalla assured that, whatever result the Indonesian contingent attained in the 2018 Asian Games, the athlete development program would continue in view of major events to come.
The Vice President inspected several JSC facilities and venues, such as the dining room in the Athletes Village, the rowing venue, the bowling alley and the beach volleyball court.
Kalla also asked a Philippines official about the service that foreign delegates had received at the Athletes Village, which served Indonesian, West Asian, Middle Eastern, Central Asian and international foods.
“Everything is positive for all athletes and officials from China, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines and Singapore. All countries are enjoying the same standards in Palembang and Jakarta,” Kalla said.
By the ninth day of the 2018 Asian Games, Indonesia’s athletes had won 12 golds, 12 silvers and 21 bronzes to provisionally occupy the fifth medal rank after China, Japan, South Korea and Iran.
