Poland Ready to Shine at the Inaugural FIH Hockey Women’s Nations Cup

"VAN" (Sports Desk - 04.06.2025) :: Poland is all set to make history as Wałcz prepares to host the first-ever edition of the FIH Hockey Women’s Nations Cup 2. The tournament marks a significant milestone for Polish hockey, not only as a celebration of the sport’s growth in the country but also as a continuation of Poland’s growing presence on the global hockey map.

Renata Solnica, Director of the Polish Hockey Association, shared her excitement ahead of the event:

“Hosting the FIH Nations Cup in Wałcz is an incredible moment for Polish hockey! Looking back at our history, it’s amazing to see how far we’ve come. Welcoming so many great teams and players from around the world is a true celebration of that journey.”

With the memory of last year’s successful men’s Nations Cup in Gniezno still fresh, Poland is aiming to recreate that magic — this time on the women’s stage.

“That event was truly special — for organizers, fans, players, and everyone in the Polish hockey community. It reminded us of how much love and energy there is for this sport in our country. Building on that success, we are thrilled to bring the same level of excitement and excellence to Wałcz this year!”

For the Polish players, the opportunity to compete in front of a home crowd is an immense source of pride and motivation.

Team Captain Marlena Rybacha couldn’t hide her excitement:

“It doesn’t happen often, so playing against world-class teams in our own country and in front of our fans is something really special for us. Hopefully, it gives us that extra boost in our performance.”

The Polish team heads into the tournament with a focus on growth and preparation for future challenges:

“Since our successful Indoor World Cup campaign, we haven’t had many chances to train together. So this tournament is a great opportunity to reconnect, build on that momentum, and prepare for the Europeans later this summer — which will also be held in Poland.

Our main goal is to measure where we are as a team and fine-tune our game. It’s less about the results, and more about playing each game to a high standard and growing from it.”

As anticipation builds, Marlena had a heartfelt message for the fans:

“To our Polish supporters — we need you with us during this amazing event. Your energy can be the difference-maker, that extra player on the field. Hopefully, we see you there in the stands!”

With passion and pride at the heart of this tournament, Poland is ready to write a new chapter in its hockey journey at the FIH Hockey Women’s Nations Cup 2 in Wałcz.
