Indonesian weightlifter collects gold at Hangzhou Asian Games with world record

"VAN" (Asian Games Sports Desk - 05.10.2023) :: Indonesian Olympic champion Rahmat Erwin Abdullah clinched the gold with a world record in the Men's 73kg event at Hangzhou Asiad here on Tuesday.

Abdullah, 22, lifted 158kg in the Snatch and presented a world record of 201kg in the Clean and Jerk for a winning total of 359kg. His personal best in the Clean and Jerk was one kilo better than his own previous world mark.

"It's an absorbing contest as I expected," said Abdullah, adding that he really enjoyed the process of the competition.

Follow Abdullah, 19-year-old Weeraphon Wichuma from Thailand, who won gold in the Men's 73kg at the 2023 World Weightlifting Championships in Riyadh last month, collected silver, by lifting 156kg in the Snatch and 195kg in the Clean and Jerk for a total of 351kg. DPR Korea's weightlifter Oh Kum Thaek came third with 344kg.

China's Wei Yinting, who won gold in the Men's 73kg at the 2023 Asian Weightlifting Championships this May, lifted 161kg in the Snatch but failed to make 180kg for three attempts in the Clean and Jerk.
