"VAN" (Sports Desk - 03.06.2025) :: With optimum weather conditions and a Top Fuel field that has been on a record-breaking roll of late, Hydraulink Jim Read Racing is expecting a show to remember at Willowbank Raceway’s Winternationals this weekend (June 5-8).
The event will mark the penultimate round of the 2024/2025 NDRC Australian Top Fuel Championship chase, in which the team is currently third on the standings.
“We have had plenty of success at the Winternationals before, I have had wins there plenty of times, dad (drag racing legend Jim Read) has won there plenty of times, and we would love to win it again,” driver Phil Read said.
“With the optimum weather conditions presented by the Queensland winter, and a run of recent personal bests for our team, we are feeling very confident of running some big numbers at Willowbank Raceway this weekend.
“It is going to be hugely competitive out there too with the entire field on a real charge at the moment, so the fans should make sure they are out at Ipswich for what is set to be an immense show.”
Hydraulink Jim Read Racing Crew Chief, Bruce Read, said Top Fuel is experiencing a pinnacle of performance right now.
“The records are falling and the personal bests are flying left, right and centre in Top Fuel at the moment, including for us, and that is something that is really exciting,” Bruce Read said.
“We head to Willowbank with a new PB under our belts of 3.712 seconds at 321.04mph, which would have been enough for another new national record for us if it wasn’t for Damien Harris also setting his own PB at the same event to sneak into the high three-sixties.
“We could be bummed about that, but I am excited – Top Fuel is well and truly in an exceptionally thrilling chapter here in Australia and the levels of performance we are seeing out on track are just fantastic.
“To be a part of this is something we are absolutely loving and I tell you what, I think there is so much more to come at the Winternationals this weekend.
“The weather conditions we traditionally enjoy at this event make for big numbers and big races – here’s hoping we can have lady luck on our side and we can race through to not only set some new markers for ourselves, but also the field, on our way to a coveted Winternats Christmas Tree!”
The Winternationals at Willowbank Raceway will be held at Willowbank Raceway in Queensland’s Ipswich across June 5-8, 2025. Following this event, the final round of the 2024/2025 NDRC Top Fuel season will be held at Sydney Dragway on August 23.
