Tebogo shines at home as Simbine sprints to world lead in Gaborone

"VAN" (Sports Desk - 14.04.2025) :: Letsile Tebogo lit up Gaborone with a dominant 200m victory (20.23) at the Botswana Golden Grand Prix, thrilling the home crowd.

Akani Simbine delivered the performance of the day, storming to a world-leading 9.90 in the 100m to beat Ferdinand Omanyala. Dalilah Muhammad also impressed, with 53.81 in the 400m hurdles.

Bayapo Ndori blazed to a 44.35 win in the 400m, while Oratile Nowe made history by breaking her own national record in the women’s 800m (1:58.96). Kethobogile Haingura led a thrilling 1-2 for Botswana in the men’s 800m.

In the field, Zane Weir and Leonardo Fabbri secured an Italian 1-2 in the shot put, while USA’s Claire Bryant, fresh off her world indoor title in Nanjing, soared 6.79m to win the women’s long jump.
