"VAN" (Sports Desk - 31.07.2025) :: Starting from 8 August, Mönchengladbach, Germany will play host to the Men’s and Women’s EuroHockey Championship 2025 - Europe’s premier hockey tournament running 8-17 August - with the champions punching their tickets to the FIH Hockey World Cup Belgium & Netherlands 2026.
Tournament Format & Pools
Both men’s and women’s tournaments will feature 8 teams, split into Pool A & B, with the top two from each pool advancing to semi-finals while the bottom two teams will play for classifications and world ranking points.
Women’s Pools
Pool A: France, Germany, Ireland, Netherlands
Pool B: Belgium, England, Scotland, Spain
Men’s Pools
Pool A: Austria, Belgium, Netherlands, Spain
Pool B: England, France, Germany, Poland
Match Schedule
The men’s tournament will begin the competition with Pool B action on 8 August, as England will take on Poland in the first match followed by hosts Germany taking on France in the evening. Pool A action will follow on 9 August with Belgium taking on Austria in match one, followed by Netherlands vs Spain.
The pool stages for the men’s competition will be played from 8-12 August, followed by positional playoffs and medal matches being played from 14-16 August.
The women’s competition begins on 9 August with Pool A teams in action. Netherlands vs Ireland will start off the competition, followed by hosts Germany taking on France later in the evening. Pool B teams will get their competition underway on the following day, 10 August, with England taking on Scotland in the first match, followed by Belgium taking on Spain in the second.
The pool stages for the women’s competition will be played from 9-13 August, followed by positional playoffs and medal matches being played from 15-17 August.
World Cup Qualification
The winner of competition will earn a coveted spot at the FIH Hockey World Cup Belgium and Netherlands 2026.
In the men’s competition Belgium and Netherlands have already qualified for the upcoming World Cup as hosts of the event, while Spain also secured their World Cup spot through the FIH Hockey Pro League 2024/25. In the event of Belgium, Netherlands or Spain finishing atop the podium, the highest finishing team outside of the three previously qualified teams will secure a World Cup qualification spot instead.
