Hangzhou Asian Para Games mascot 'Feifei' helps village residents work, nest and play

"VAN" (Sports Desk - 23.10.2023) :: As the traffic lights on Shijiu Street within the Hangzhou Asian Para Games Village transition from red to green, Feifei, the mascot of Hangzhou Asian Para Games, spreads its wings and glides gracefully, captivating the attention of everyone present.

Waiting briefly at the bus stop next to the traffic lights, a shuttlebus arrives. Upon boarding, Feifei, with its adorable big eyes, greets residents of the village from the side of the bus.

As the cherished trio of mascots from the Asian Games have triumphantly completed their mission, Feifei has taken the spotlight. From the residential district to the commercial street, from the comprehensive Classification Centre to the shuttle buses, it is like the village's enchanting little sprite.

The village's "new look" with Feifei is both heartwarming and thoughtfully done, in that it not only decorates various corners of the village, but also brings valuable assistance to its residents.

At the Classification Centre, where athletes complete their grading, enabling them to participate in sports events at various levels based on the severity of their impairments, it's adorned with various paintings and handicrafts such as umbrella art, plate art, paper-cut designs, and ceramics.

According to Du Jinhong, director of the Classification Centre, the artworks showcase diverse content, including Feifei, Asia Para Games venues, and the picturesque scenery of Hangzhou.

"When athletes come for grading, they may naturally feel a bit anxious. The welcoming environment helps alleviate this tension and facilitates a smoother grading process," Du said.

"These works were crafted by students from special schools and adults with impairments, symbolizing their heartfelt blessings to the village and the Asian Para Games as a whole," explained Du.

"Our operational team is working diligently to create a warm 'home' for all athletes and officials. The adorable Feifei is our best 'helper'," Du said.

In the classification room, Feifei takes on different appearances based on various sports categories and grading levels. Each of these poses corresponds directly to the room's function, serving as a guide and visual representation.

At the entrance, a sign featuring Feifei wholeheartedly welcomes the athletes back to the village—a close-knit family—and expresses the hope that every day will be filled with happiness.
