Mcgrotty ready to return to Happy Hunting Ground

"VAN" (Sports Desk - 04.12.2025) :: The 2024 South Coast Nationals is the event that set Adrian McGrotty on his path to the 2024/2025 ANDRA Regional Sportsman Super Gas Championship.

That event marked the first in a hat-trick of event wins that spurred him on to the ANDRA Grand Final with a basically unbeatable points margin.

Now, he is getting ready to return to this happy hunting ground for this weekend’s South Coast Nationals at South Coast Raceway, alongside 165 of this fellow ANDRA Regional Sportsman Championship racers.

“Having the win at last year’s South Coast Nationals got the ball rolling for us; we were lucky enough to be able to string a few wins together,” said the Three Dimensional Construction Super Gas racer.

“This season has started similar to last season, with a problem during the Friday night Test ‘n’ Tune at Mildura’s Sunset Nationals in September, which forced us to withdraw from the event.

“That was all fixed for the Spring Nationals at Dragway at The Bend in October where we went all the way to the final, but unfortunately a -.003 red light cost me the win in what was a very close 9.904 to a 9.906 race.

“So, we are very keen to head to South Coast Raceway now, and hopefully we can go for a repeat of last year’s performance.

“It is definitely one of our favourite tracks and I have said before that I think South Coast Raceway is a track that some of the big venues could learn something from.

“We will rely on our previous data there and hopefully we can run consistently enough to give us the best chance of winning and gathering valuable points for the championship defence.”

Defending his championship is most definitely on McGrotty’s mind heading into the South Coast Raceway double of South Coast Nationals and the South Coast 660 in January (2-3).

“Back-to-back champions certainly has a nice ring to it, but I am sure there are 10 to 15 other guys and girls who also have their eye on the title!” he smiled.

“With the backing from my family; my crew Stan, Zac, Terry, and Luke; and the support of The Logo Lady and Metro Pipe Services; we will be giving it our best shot.”

The South Coast Nationals will be held on December 5, 6 and 7, 2025, while the South Coast 660 will be held on January 2 and 3, 2026.
