Today's events at GC2018 games :: 10 April Tuesday

"VAN" (GC2018 Sports Desk) :: Shooters will shoot their target The competition has been heating up at Belmont Shooting Centre and three new champions will be crowned today. Gold medals will be awarded in the coveted Queen’s Prize Pairs final, women’s 25m Pistol and men’s 50m Rifle Prone. Australia's Lalita Yauhleuskaya aims to recover from her 10th place in the 10m Air Pistol when she takes on her pet event, the women's 25m Pistol. She will have to overcome Indian shooter Annu Singh, who is the highest-ranked shooter on the entry list. In the men's 50m Rifle Prone, India's Gagan Narang - one of the most decorated athletes in Games history - is looking to add an 11th medal to his collection. English pair David Luckman and Parang Patel lead the Queen's Prize Pairs event into the final day. In the pool, on the track, roads, courts and arenas, the Commonwealth’s strongest, fastest and toughest are vying for 26 gold medals today on an action-packed Day 6 of GC2018. Today the Road Cycling action begins at Currumbin Beachfront, four champions will be crowned in Para Powerlifting and the Athletics competition continues at Carrara Stadium. Read on for a snapshot of the action to come. Gold medals up for grabs today: 26 Basketball teams play for a place in the finals It’s qualifying finals time in Cairns and Townsville. In Cairns, the men's qualifying finals sees Canada play England and Nigeria play Scotland. In Townsville, Mozambique face New Zealand and England take on Jamaica in the women's competition. As pool winners, Canada and Australia are already through to the semifinals in the women's competition, as well as Australia and New Zealand in the men's. The Athletics action continues Eight medals are on the line at Carrara Stadium, including the decathlon.The line-up also includes the women’s hammer throw, featuring two-time champion Sultana Frizell, Kurt Fearnley, Diane Roy and Madi de Rozario in the men’s and women’s T54 1500m and Caster Semenya is hoping to secure the first of two gold medals in the 1500m as she attempts the 800m/1500m double. Road cyclists race the clock in the Time Trial The first of the free Road Cycling events are underway today, with athletes taking on the Time Trial course at Currumbin Beachfront. The riders will face a challenging course that demands speed, stamina and climbing skills. The men are up first, taking on a 38.5km course that winds through the hinterland and Currumbin Rock Pools, before returning to Currumbin Beachfront to sprint to the finish. Among the gold medal contenders is Cameron Meyer, who competed in the Track Cycling competition earlier in the competition. He missed out on a medal in the Velodrome, so could the road course end in gold? He will have tough competition in fellow Australian Callum Scotson and New Zealand's Hamish Bond, who is a two-time Olympic rowing champion. The women will tackle a 25.5km course through the hinterland. Gold Coast resident and GC2018 Road Cycling Ambassador Katrin Garfoot is favourite in the women's race. She won bronze in Glasgow and will be looking to add a gold to the collection. Boxing bouts to watch As Boxing continues, Australia's Skye Nicolson will face Cameroon's Christelle Aurore Ndiang in the ring for the women's 57kg quarterfinals, and 22-year-old Australian Liam Wilson - who promised his dying father he would become a world champion - will meet one of the favourites Luke McCormack in the men's 64kg quarterfinals. You can watch this Power Lifting Event, it's satisfactory All four Para Powerlifting medals are up for grabs today. These incredible athletes can lift up to three times their bodyweight and will be fighting for gold at Carrara Indoor Sports Centre. Nigeria won all of the medals at the past two games and will have targets on their backs as the other nations vie for gold. Australia’s Leigh Skinner will compete in his final competition in the men’s heavyweight, alongside compatriot Ben Wright. Nigeria’s Abdulazeez Ibrahim is the reigning champion and will take to the bench to defend his title. In the women’s events, Australia’s Kelly Cartwright will make her Games Para Powerlifting debut. She previously competed in athletics at two Paralympics.
