“We are eager to play them again”: Charani ahead of eliminator vs GG

"VAN" (Sports Desk - 03.02.2026) :: The JSW and GMR co-owned Delhi Capitals secured a place in the Women’s Premier League 2026 playoffs with a five wicket win over UP Warriorz at the BCA Stadium here on Sunday. Chasing a target of 123, DC completed the chase with eight balls to spare, finishing on 126 for 5, with Laura Wolvaardt top scoring with 47 and captain Jemimah Rodrigues playing match winning quick fire 34 off 18.

Reflecting on the mindset going into this must-win encounter vs the Warriorz, Delhi Capitals spinner Shree Charani said, “I think everyone was clear about their duties and we were quite chill. There was nothing extra to worry about. I even spoke to Laura Wolvaardt and she said let us treat this like a simple match and not think of it as a qualification game. I think everyone had the same thought process and that helped us stay calm.”

Earlier in the evening, DC’s bowlers laid the foundation for the win with a disciplined performance on at the wearing Vadodara surface. Shree Charani minted 2 for 22 while Marizanne Kapp led with 3 for 30, as UP Warriorz were restricted to 122 for 8 in their 20 overs.

Speaking about her learning curve with the Capitals and approach, Charani added, “I feel I have a bit more exposure now compared to last season. I can understand my game better and also communicate more clearly with the captain about how I am feeling and what I can do better. That confidence has come with playing more matches at this level.”

Delhi Capitals now turn their attention to the Eliminator against Gujarat Giants, a side they are yet to beat this season. With a place in the final of the Women’s Premier League 2026 at stake, DC will be keen to flip the script.

In the previous fixture vs the Giants, Charani shined with impressive figures of 4/31. Looking ahead to the Eliminator against the opposition, she said, “We are eager to play against them again because we want to beat them. The matches against them have been very close, so for us it is about sticking to our strengths and doing the basics right.
