Will China Invest in Afghanistan’s Energy Sector now!

"VAN" (International Desk - 02.01.2022) :: China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) is interested to invest in the construction of water storage dams and energy production projects in Afghanistan.

The head of CRBC and a number of technical officials of this company met with Abdul Latif Mansoor, the Acting Minister of Energy and Water of the Taliban administration in Tashkent. The two sides discussed the possible investment opportunities in the construction of water dams and energy production projects in Afghanistan.

Mansoor expressed his optimism about Chinese investors in the country and added that they will provide investment opportunities for foreign investors across different fields including energy, construction, information technology, mining, and more.

Meanwhile, the minister assured CRBC of ensuring the security of Chinese citizens and investors in the country. “Afghanistan’s security institutions are fully committed to ensuring the security of foreign investors and companies in all corners of the country,” Mansoor said.

This comes as security remains a major challenge for the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan regime. Several suicide attacks and bombings have occurred in different parts of the country over the past couple of weeks, causing to the death and injury of scores of people.

The terror attack in a Chinese-run hotel in the capital Kabul in December resulted in the injury of several Chinese nationals – forcing them to leave the country immediately.

Furthermore, since the Taliban’s return to power in August 2021, foreign investment has dropped to zero, forcing the ruling authorities to look for every single window of opportunity to attract national and international investors to improve the national economy.
