"VAN" (International Desk) :: The Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi met with President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani after arriving in Afghanistan on an unannounced visit. In her meeting with President Ghani, Pelosi said the U.S. has a presence in Afghanistan as Taliban was once hosting terror groups which attacked the United States, according to a statement released by ARG Palace. Pelosi further added that the United States does not want the Afghanistan to turn into a sanctuary for the terror groups once again. Furthermore, Pelosi said preserving the gains and ensuring women’s rights remain a top priority for the U.S. Congress. She also added that the United States respects the achievements, commitments, priorities, national interests and efforts of Afghanistan for a long term friendship. This comes as President Ghani had earlier met with the U.S. Secretary of Defense Mark Esper who also arrived in Kabul on an unannounced visit on Sunday. Cr :: KHAAMA
