Shramik Special trains transported more than 52 Lakh passengers during lockdown in India

"VAN" (Delhi Bureau) :: Shramik Special trains has transported more than 52 Lakh passengers to their native places up to 29.05.2020 in India during lockdown due to COVID 19 Pandemic. Railway Board Chairman Vinod Kumar Yadav confirmed in a Press Conference today in New Delhi that a total of three thousand 840 Shramik Special trains have been operationalized from various states across the country. He said, Railway has accommodated almost all requests received from the sending States. Yadav also informed that Railway is ready to meet all demands for movement of the Shramik Special Trains. He said, 80% of Shramik trains are destined for various destinations in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Railways had started running Shramik Special trains from 1st May, to move migrant workers, pilgrims, tourists, students and other persons stranded at different places due to lock down.

On delay of the train, Chairman Railway Board said that only four out of 3,840 Shramik Special trains have taken more than 72 hours to reach destination. He also said, only 1.85 per cent of total train were diverted. Yadav told that the requirement of Shramik Special trains has reduced and currently the total demand is only 449 more trains from states.
