Tokyo2020 - GB win gold in 470 class making Hannah Mills the most successful female sailor in history

"VAN" (Sports Desk - Tokyo2020 - 04.08.2021) :: Mills defended her Rio 2016 title with new partner, Eilidh McIntyre, while Poland’s Agnieszka Skrzypulec and Jolanta Ogar claim silver and France’s pair of Camille Lecointre and Aloise Retornaz win bronze.

Great Britain’s Hannah Mills and Eilidh McIntyre were sick with nerves ahead of the medal race in the women’s 470 class, however, they needn't have worried. With a 14-point lead it was theirs to lose and they crossed the line in fifth place to win gold across the five-leg regatta, defending Mills’ Rio 2016 title, albeit this time with new partner, McIntyre.

The duo yelled with delight on crossing the line, in the last race of the Tokyo 2020 sailing competition taking place at the Enoshima Yacht Harbour.

Mills, competing in her third Olympic Games, becomes the most successful female sailor in history. The world No 1 claimed silver at London 2012 and won gold at Rio 2016 with Saskia Clark.

Poland, with 39-year-old Jolanta Ogar in the boat with partner Agnieszka Skrzypulec, finished in fourth place to go ahead of France to win silver, with Camille Lecointre and Aloise Retornaz claiming bronze. A protest by the French boat against the British duo at race end was dismissed by the judges.
